LG set the bar high with the first round Android Wear device and is now following it up with the first cellular-enabled model that also includes GPS.

I’m currently evaluating a couple of awesome round Android Wear smartwatches, the Huawei Watch and new Moto 360, but the other excellent round smartwatch released a couple months ago was the LG Watch Urbane.

LG announced the first cellular-enabled Android Wear device, the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, last night, but has yet to provide pricing or availability information. Given the wireless data connectivity, I imagine we will see US carriers make the announcement with watch and data pricing options soon.

We’ve seen 3G-enabled smartwatches before, most notably the Samsung Gear S and upcoming Gear S2, but they both run Tizen. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition runs Android Wear and I haven’t heard of any other device coming with integrated cellular service.

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition includes a 1.38 inch 480 x 480 pixel plastic OLED display, Snapdragon 400 1.2 GHz processor, 570 mAh battery, 768 MB of RAM, and 4GB of integrated storage. For comparison, the current LG Watch Urbane has a 1.3 inch 320 x 320 display, 410 mAh battery, and 512 MB of RAM so this is an upgrade in every specification.

Due to the use of the band for some of the technology, they are no longer swappable. You will also find three buttons on this watch, rather than the single one at 3 o’clock on the existing Watch Urbane.

A major bonus for fitness buffs is the inclusion of a GPS receiver that should allow you to listen to music, track your run, and stay in touch with people out on the road with just your watch.

LG is holding an event in New York today, likely to show off a new phone and tablet, but there should also be more details on the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition.
