Apple rumor mill: 3 iPhones could launch this year
It’s not unusual for Apple to debut two versions of the iPhone each year, but this year, we could see the launch of three.
According to DigiTimes, which has a mixed track record for reporting rumors, the company is planning to release an additional model of its next-generation iPhone later this year. The three devices will be the iPhone 6S, the iPhone 6S Plus and a budget-friendly iPhone 6C.
Previous rumors suggested that Apple was phasing out its C-model phones. In 2013, Apple rolled out a lower-cost version of its flagship device, which has a plastic casing available in various colors, including white, green, pink and yellow.
Recently, there was also buzz about Apple testing a new pink color option as part of its iPhone lineup, but that may simply be a feature of the reported 6C.
The DigiTimes said the three iPhones will include Corning Gorilla Glass, and feature Force Touch technology, which can differentiate between light and strong finger presses.
While the iPhone 6S Plus will include a Samsung A9 processor, the iPhone 6C will come with Samsung’s A8 chip, according to the report. All the devices are expected to ship with Touch ID and NFC capabilities for Apple Pay.
