Sony Xperia E4 Promises 2-day Battery Life
Sony has a new competitor in the increasingly crowded mid-range smartphone space: The Xperia E4, a stylish, 5-inch phone with exceptionally long battery life.
According to Sony, the device’s 2,300mAh battery can deliver two days of “active use” battery life and Sony claims you can extend that even further by using the device’s STAMINA and Ultra STAMINA modes of operation.
On the design side, the E4 has pretty much abandoned the Z- and E-series’ aesthetics, rocking soft edges instead of sharp ones, which makes it look quite similar to Apple’s iPhone 6. We’ll see if this design choice signifies a change in the company’s smartphone design philosophy or it’s just a one-off experiment.
Other features of note include a 5-inch screen with a 960×540 pixel resolution, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a 5-megapixel camera with full HD video recording capabilities on the rear, coupled with a 2-megapixel shooter on the front.
Sony Xperia E4 will become available mid-February, in white and black, and also as a dual-SIM device. Sony did not say which markets the E4 will initially hit, but a company rep told us this does not include the U.S.
The announcement comes just a few weeks before the start of Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona March 2-5. Sony has traditionally shown new devices at the event; we’ll see if the tradition continues this year as well.
